We do have great internet services in India. India being so big, there are locations where you may not have access to high speed internet. Situation worsens when you are using internet for your day to day functions. For the last 3 days, we do have heavy rains here at our farm which is about 40kms from Mysore city.

I was wondering if Starlink or any other satellite internet could be something I could use if and when it starts its operations in India.

When are we going to get started with Satellite Internet in India?

Yes, Starlink is set to launch its satellite internet services in India. Elon Musk’s SpaceX has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT), indicating formal authorization to begin operations.

The service aims to offer high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity, particularly targeting remote and underserved areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is lacking.

While the exact launch date has not been announced, reports suggest that Starlink is in the final stages of obtaining necessary approvals, including spectrum allocation and clearance from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe).

Regarding pricing, Starlink is expected to introduce unlimited data plans at promotional rates under ₹1,000 per month, making it a competitive option in the Indian market.

The hardware required to access Starlink’s services may involve a one-time cost, with reports indicating prices around ₹32,400.

Starlink’s entry into India is anticipated to enhance internet accessibility across the country, especially in regions where connectivity has been a longstanding challenge.
