RSS feeds are the best way to keep track of a blog or a website without going to the site. I had explained about the advantages and disadvantages of RSS Feeds, but when we look in depth, it more of advantage to have more number of RSS Feed readers. Now the question is how to increase your number of Feed readers. Even though I do not have a considerable number of Feed Readers as I have not really worked on this. I have a simple email subscription box, but need to increase my number of Feed Readers and you can make money from RSS Feed Subscribers

Things I have already done

Feedburner Account – I have already created a feedburner account. Why do we need to have a feedburner account. Feedburner is a free service which keeps track of our feedburner subscribers. Feedburner is free to use and it provides us with Free Email Delivery option which is something considerable. Other important advantage is that we can have the statistics of our RSS Feed Readers.

Create a Email Subscription Form – This can be done with ease from your Feedburner control panel. You can generate the code and paste it on your blog.

Things I need to do

Optimize RSS Feed Subscription box – This is very important to boost your RSS Feed readers. Make the subscription look attractive and place it on your sidebar and should be on the top of the sidebar. Provide a link to your Feed URL so that they can subscribe through their default RSS Reader like Google Reader. Always assume that your visitors are lazy and will not be going for hectic steps or more number of steps to do something.

Subscription option at the bottom of every post – Add an option to subscribe to your Feeds at the bottom of every post. This should really boost your RSS Feed readers.

Explain What RSS Feed Subscription is – Its very important to educate your visitors about RSS Feed subscription. I am sure that you will agree that many internet users are there who do not know what RSS Feeds are and what are the advantage of subscribing to a blog’s or Site RSS Feeds. Write a post about RSS feeds and the advantages of subscribing and place a subscription box and a link to your Feedburner link. Add a link to this page with a text “What is RSS Feeds” so people who do not understand what RSS Feeds are can go the page where you have explained what RSS Feeds are and can subscribe from the explanation page.

Topic of your blog – If you write about 100 topics and expect all your readers to read to your posts, then that will not work. This will surely increase your un-subscription rate. So its advisable to write on 1 or 2 topics rather than writing about everything what you want to write. The other option is to provide subscription categorically, which will be a tough job, but its being done by news websites like BBC, CNN and almost every big sites where they provide content with different categories

Content of your blog – Do write unique and readable content for your blog and be consistent about doing your post. Consistency in blog posting is very important when you maintain a blog. If you publish 15 posts a day and no posts for many days, this can possibly annoy the reader.

Subscription Campaign – You can create an Adwords campaign or any other advertising tool to increase your subscribers. You will need to create a good landing page for this campaign with options to subscribe. This can considerably increase your RSS Feed readers.

These are few tips that I feel should be helpful to increase the number of your RSS Feed readers. Getting new RSS feed readers and keeping your readers with you is also very important. For this you need to keep your blog updated with fresh, unique and informative posts which should really make the subscriber wait for your next post. Don’t go for quantity of posts, but quality of posts should really help you in getting better conversion.
