Tips for commenting on blogs

I have reading, approving and moderating comments for sometime and I come across different kinds of comments. Some comments I publish, some delete and some I mark as spam
Comments that I publish – The comments that I publish are either of regular visitors or the comment is related to the post. Some comments are questions, some are contradictory (which I really appreciate) and some are just praise. Some commenter are just commenting to post their blog link on my posts which I don’t feel is a wrong thing, but the content of the comment should be worth reading or at least related to the post.
Comments that I delete – If the comment is no way related to the post, if the comment is having bad language
Comments that I mark as spam – I use Akismet to filter spam and sometimes some get in, these comments I mark as spam as this will help the Akismet techs to improve the filter.
Some tips related to commenting on other blog
Branding - Commenting on other blog is participating in a discussion and introducing yourself to the community. You should establish yourself by branding yourself. Create a Gravatar and upload your picture and register you email ID and web address. This will create an identity and people will start recognizing you. This is something what you should do first if you have not done. Most of the popular blogs display the commenter’s information using this service
What to comment – If you are a regular reader of some blog, you will be interested in appreciating the write up or the information provided on the blog post and I feel that is something accepted and your comment will be published. But this does not really get noticed by a visitor who is going through the comments. Suppose you feel there something missing the blog post and you have some more information, you should post a comment and even you can ask question to the author of the post. What happens to such comments are they get noticed, they may be interested in knowing who you are so they may click on the link in your name and visit your blog and may be subscribe to you blog posts and even may be a regular reader of your blog.
Most of the blogs use rel=nofollow tag so do not expect any pagerank juice by commenting, but you can get some traffic and new visitors and above all what I feel is to improve your presence in the community. Do not dump links into your comments, what i suggest is not more than one link and that too only if your feel that there is no other way to provide the information. Dumping links may prove negative as some webmasters may treat your comment as spam.

Informative tips Asokans, I also feel that adding more links will push the comments as spam, commenting feature should not be misused. Commenting gets in good number of new visitors and its a free source of traffic
