Compression your videos for blog posts

Arabic    French    German    Romanian    Russian    Danish    Italian       Show Original

One the important factor for doing video posts is to upload a video which is compressed using the right codec and maintaining the quality. I have been experimenting with different tools on this topic and I am almost satisfied by the way I work now.

Tools for Video Blogging

  1. Good Digital Camera
  2. Video Editing Software
  3. Account with video hosting website

Digital Camera for Blog Posting

A Good digital camera that can be carried when you travel and is not a burden to keep it in your pocket will be good. There are many cameras which are ideal for this and not much expensive.

  • Flip – Most of the popular bloggers use this and its very small and convenient to use.
  • Vado Camcorder – Another one with more features and advanced one. You can find the comparison of these two cameras done by Amit on his blog.

I use canon T1 which is bit expensive but of great use and features. The biggest advantage is see about this is that you can carry it in your pocket and it has great zoom feature and good quality pictures can be taken

    Video Editing Softwares

I use the following software for compressing the videos that I shoot for my blogs and which needs to be uploaded to a video hosting website like Youtube or Revver

    1. Windows Movie Maker
    2. Virtual Dub
    3. Xvid

Windows Movie Maker is available free with Windows XP or Vista. Edit your Video with this tool and save it on your local hard disc maintaining the quality of the video

Virtual Dub is used to compress the video, by going to the filter and selecting Xvid MPEG-4 Codec as shown in the image below. You will have to download the Xvid Codec which is free. VirtualDub is also free and you can download it here

Now the next task is to resize the image to a smaller one and that can be done by applying the resize filter. Go to the filter menu and add resize from the list as shown below

Now you are ready to save the video as avi file. You will find that the video size has gone down tremendously and you can upload this file to the video hosting portal. I recommend you to upload on different hosting sites and use the one which suits your blog
